LITTLE ROCK (AP) -- Mike Smith, Shane Edwards and Brandon Patterson combined for 32 points to lead Arkansas-Little Rock to an 82-52 victory Thursday night in a contest with Sun Belt Conference rival Arkansas State.
Smith had 12 points and Patterson and Edwards 10 each in the victory that kept the Trojans (16-10, 9-7 SBC) in contention in the league's West Division and ended a five-game losing streak against their upstate rivals.
UALR is tied with North Texas for second in the division, a game behind leader Louisiana-Lafayette.
Arkansas State (9-18, 4-12) was playing its first game since head coach Dickey Nutt -- who watched the game from one of the skyboxes at the Stephens Center -- resigned on Tuesday.
The Trojans shot 56 percent from the field, suffered only eight turnovers and out-rebounded the Indians 39-29. ASU shot just 37 percent and had 18 turnovers.
The Trojans' balanced attack was clear in the scoring of the rest of the team. UALR also got 8 points each from
John Fowler, Stephen Moore and
Matt Mouzy, and 7 from Terrence Akins.
The Indians only lead was 3-0, and the Trojans led 38-23 at the half.
Adrian Banks led the Indians with 14 points, and
Ryan Wedel and
Shawn Morgan scored 10 each.
