Miami 78, Maryland 63

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Anthony King scored 14 points as surging Miami followed Wednesday's victory over No. 2 Duke by defeating Maryland 78-63 Saturday afternoon.

James Dews finished with 13 points, while Jack McClinton, Dwayne Collins and Brian Asbury each scored 12 for the Hurricanes (19-7, 6-6 Atlantic Coast Conference), who have won four straight to get back into the NCAA tournament picture.

McClinton's 3-pointer with 3:03 remaining helped start a game-ending 17-5 run by the Hurricanes.

Eric Hayes led Maryland (17-11, 7-6) with 14 points. Landon Milborne and Greivis Vasquez each scored 13.

Miami has now defeated Maryland in five of the past six meetings between the teams.

Milborne hit two open 3-pointers in an 8-0 Maryland run early in the second half that tied the game at 44. But James Gist, the Terrapins' second-leading scorer at 15.8 per game, committed his fourth foul with 15:44 remaining and was forced to sit for nearly nine minutes -- and Maryland struggled.

The Terrapins went nearly 5 1/2 minutes without a field goal in one stretch with Gist out, yet a 3-pointer by Vasquez got Maryland within 61-58 with 5:26 left.

It was all Miami from there.

McClinton had five points in Miami's final run, Collins had four, and the Hurricanes went 8-for-8 from the foul line in the final 1:19 to seal the win.

Miami led by as many as 11 in the first half, before Maryland -- with Gist and Hayes each scoring six points -- each scored six points in a 14-6 run that drew the Terrapins within 39-36 at intermission.

Gist finished with 10 points for Maryland and Vasquez finished with eight rebounds and six assists, both game-highs.
