CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) -- Jason Holsinger scored a game-high 14 points to lead Evansville past Eastern Illinois 63-55 on Saturday night.
The Panthers (5-22) took a slim 24-21 lead into the half but couldn't hold on through the second period. Jake Byrne led Eastern Illinois with 11 points, including 3-of-4 free throws. Ousmane Cisse was the only other Panther in double figures with 10 points.
Cisse gave the Panthers a 51-49 lead with 4:50 left, but the Purple Aces took the lead for good soon after with a pair of free throws at the 3:11 mark.
The lead changed 15 times and the score was tied eight times in the ESPNU Bracketbuster game.
Evansville shot 48.9 percent, while Eastern Illinois shot 46.9 percent. Evansville was more successful at the free throw line, hitting 15-of-21.
