SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) -- Matt Kingsley scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half, helping Stephen F. Austin hold off a late Texas State rally Wednesday for a 74-70 win.
The Lumberjacks (23-3, 11-2 Southland) took their first lead in the game with 43 seconds left in the first half, and never relinguished it.
Stephen F. Austin led 69-57 with 6:10 to play. Texas State's Dylan Moseley scored five points off the bench, and a tip-in from Brandon Bush closed the Lumberjack lead to two points, 72-70, with 1:57 to play. After missed shots by the Lumberjacks and a timeout, Brent Benson of Texas State missed a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left that would have given the Bobcats the lead. Free throws by Kingsley with eight seconds left secured the win for the Lumberjacks.
Brandon Bush led the Bobcats (12-15, 5-9) with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Brent Benson also scored 17 for Texas State. Ryan White was held to 2-of-15 from the field, scoring 8 points.
The win was the eighth straight for Stephen F. Austin.
