LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Arizona Reid spoiled a big day for Virginia Military Institute's Reggie Williams by scoring 42 points and grabbing 14 rebounds as High Point withstood a second-half rally on its way to a 99-88 victory Saturday.
Williams, honored before what was probably his final game at Cameron Hall, led the Keydets with 31 points and became the state's Division I career scoring leader with 2,526 points, 10 more than Bryant Stith had at Virginia in 1989-92.
Reid scored 26 points in the first half to boost the Panthers (16-13, 8-6 Big South) to a 53-47 lead. High Point increased its lead to as many as 13 in the second half before the Keydets (14-14, 6-8) closed to within 73-71 with 7:38 remaining.
The Panthers, however, responded with a 16-3 run to clinch the victory.
Chavis Holmes added 27 points for the Keydets.
