KENT, Ohio (AP) -- Mike Scott had a double-double Tuesday night, and Kent State clinched the top seed in the Mid-American Conference tournament with a 50-39 victory over Miami of Ohio, which was missing coach Charlie Coles.

The Golden Flashes (24-6, 12-3) tied a school record with their 24th regular-season victory, matching their mark from 2001-02, and finished their home season at 16-0.

After moving up to No. 23 last week -- its first appearance in the national poll -- Kent State dropped out with an 89-83 loss to Bowling Green on Saturday. Scott had a career-high 23 points in that game.

Scott helped the Golden Flashes bounce back by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds on Tuesday. Chris Singletary had a team-high 15 points.

Miami (14-14, 8-7) was coached by Jermaine Henderson, an assistant who filled in for Coles for the second straight game. The 66-year-old coach has been sick for the last few days and stayed in Oxford to get precautionary medical tests.

Tim Pollitz led Miami with 13 points and gave the RedHawks their biggest lead, 12-7, with a layup. Scott's dunk put Kent State ahead to stay 15-14.

After Pollitz's jumper cut it to 39-33 with 4:18 to go, Singletary made a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer that built the lead to double-digits. Kent State was never threatened again.
