GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Sam Hinnant scored 21 points and was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line to help lead East Carolina to a 71-56 win against Coker on Friday night.
Chad Wynn added a career-high 15 points for the Pirates (1-0), who shot 49 percent from the field en route to victory.
Vatrick Thompson led the Cobras (0-1) with 16 points, while Josh Poston added 12 and Mason Abler chipped in 11 in the loss.
The Pirates were up 21-4 at the 12:54 mark in the first and ended the half up 32-22, but a 15-2 run in the second helped put them comfortably ahead the rest of the way.
East Carolina was up by 29 at one point in the second, but the Cobras finished the game on a 23-9 run that closed the gap in the end.
