SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Tracy Rankins came off the bench to score 24 points and help Savannah State hold off North Florida 75-60 Sunday.
The Ospreys, playing their season opener, made up a 15-point deficit with a furious second-half rally to lead 51-48. North Florida couldn't sustain the momentum, though, as Savannah State went on an 18-2 run to seal the victory. Rankins, who scored 12 points during the Tigers' surge, was 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.Rashad Hassan chipped in 20 points for Savannah State on 7-of-9 shooting and had seven rebounds.North Florida shot only 25 percent (7 of 28) in the first half, improving to 36.8 percent (21 of 57) for the game.Three Ospreys were in double figures, led by Cortez Riley who had 16 points, 13 in the second half. Cameron Lovelace and Germaine Sparkes added 11 points apiece.
