THIBODAUX, La. -- Ryan Bathie and Fred Hunter scored 19 points apiece to lead Nicholls State to a 79-62 win against New Orleans on Wednesday night.
Hunter also chipped in a team-hign six rebounds for the Colonels in their season-opening win. Bathie added three 3-pointers and three blocks. Nicholls State shot 51.7 percent from the field (30 of 58) en route to victory.Darrian McKinstry scored a game-high 28 points and added five rebounds for the Privateers (0-2), who led 10-2 at the start of the game only to fall behind 41-26 at halftime. New Orleans shot 37.5 percent (9 of 24) in the second half.It was the Colonels' first season-opening win since their 1999 win over Centenary.
