MACOMB, Ill. -- Josh Rivers and David DuBois each scored 21 points as Western Illinois survived a late Kangaroo rally to defeat Missouri-Kansas City 71-68 on Friday.
Western Ilinois (6-8, 3-0 Summit) led 36-22 going into halftime, but UMKC (5-12, 1-3 Summit) rallied after the break to outscore the Leathernecks 46-35 in the second period. David Nurse added three 3-pointers for Western Illinois.Dane Brumagin and Fred Ford each had 15 points for UMKC and Reggie Hamilton added 13 points while Latreze Mushatt had a game-high 11 rebounds. The Kangaroos lost Spencer Johnson with five fouls.Western Illinois shot 52.2 percent overall from the field for the game, while UMKC shot 40.4 percent. UMKC had 35 rebounds for the game compared with 26 for Western Illinois.
