STOCKTON, Calif. -- Stephan Gilling scored 19 points to lead Long Beach State to a 74-64 victory over Pacific on Thursday night.
The 49ers (8-7, 3-0 Big West) shot 58 percent from the field in the second half to take control after trailing by five points at halftime. Donovan Morris had 14 points for Long Beach State, which took over sole possession of first place in the Big West at 3-0.
Trailing 47-43, Long Beach took command with an 18-6 run sparked by Gilling midway through the second half. Gilling scored eight points during the decisive stretch, including two of his four 3-pointers.
Long Beach took a 67-58 lead into the final minute, but Pacific twice crept within six points on 3-pointers by Troyer. The 49ers sealed their second road victory of the season with four free throws by Morris and three by Larry Anderson in the final 54 seconds.
There were eight lead changes in the game's first seven minutes before Pacific built a five-point lead midway through the first half.
Long Beach took the lead back with an 11-5 run, but Pacific scored the next six points and ended the half with a 3-pointer by Kirby and two free throws by Bryan LeDuc to take a 37-32 lead.
Long Beach scored the first five points of the second half on its way to taking over the game. The 49ers limited Pacific to 32 percent shooting from the field in the second half after the Tigers shot 54 percent during the first half.
