MILWAUKEE -- Rahmon Fletcher scored 19 points and hit two free throws with 5.4 seconds left to lift Wisconsin-Green Bay to a 77-75 overtime victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Horizon League action Friday night.
The outcome mirrored a game in the 2005-06 season, when the Phoenix also ended a Panther 5-0 league winning streak to start the season, defeating Milwaukee 84-77 on Jan. 14, 2006.
This time,
Ryan Tillema scored 24 points to lead the Phoenix (11-5, 4-1), while the Panthers (9-6, 5-1) were led by
Avery Smith with 21 points and
Tone Boyle with 17.
Trailing by double-digits most of the second half, the Panthers came alive late with key 3-pointers including one by
James Eayrs with 12.9 seconds left to tie the game 65-65 and force overtime.
The score was tied at 75-75 when Fletcher was fouled by
Anthony Hill while driving to the basket, and he sank the free throws to win the game.
Green Bay led 36-25 at halftime thanks to 13 first-half points off the bench by Ryan Tillema.
Milwaukee hit 20-of-20 free throws for a Horizon League record. Several teams held the previous mark of 16 out of 16.
