BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Orlando Mendez-Valdez scored 21 points to lead four Western Kentucky players in double digits in a 78-57 win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday night.
Sergio Kerusch added 13 points, while Jeremy Evans and Steffphon Pettigrew had 12 apiece for the Hilltoppers (10-6, 4-1 Sun Belt Conference). Western Kentucky shot 44.8 percent from the field (30 of 67) in the win.
The Hilltoppers led by four points at halftime, but outscored the Owls 47-30 in the second half.
Nwoji's three-point play with 12:06 to play in the second pulled the Owls within 46-44. But the Hilltoppers went on a 13-4 run, capped by a Kerusch jumper, over the next 5 minutes to blow the game open.
The Owls have lost eight straight games.
