BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Andy King scored 16 points to lead five Samford players in double figures and the Bulldogs beat Western Carolina 76-64 on Thursday night.
Trey Montgomery added 15 points,
Josh Bedwell chipped in 14 and
Bryan Friday and
Josh Davis scored 10 points each for Samford (7-8, 2-4 Southern Conference), which raised its season-high point total two points. The Bulldogs scored 74 in a loss to the College of Charleston on Monday.
The Bulldogs shot 52 percent (13 of 25) as they handed Western Carolina (8-6, 3-1) its first loss since falling 81-78 at UNC-Asheville on Dec. 31.
Southern Conference Player of the Week,
Harouna Mutombo scored 16 points for the Catamounts and
Brandon Giles added 14.
Thursday's game was only the second time Western Carolina, ranked the No. 22 offense in the country at 80.5 points per game, scored under 68 points.
