Cornell 71, Columbia 59

NEW YORK -- Louis Dale scored 19 points and Ryan Wittman added 16 as Cornell opened defense of its Ivy League championship with a 71-59 victory over Columbia on Saturday.

Alex Tyler added 11 points and Chris Wroblewski scored all of his 11 in the second half as the Big Red (11-6) won their sixth straight game and 16th in a row over Ivy League rivals.

Columbia (5-10, 0-1) led 38-37 with 14:47 remaining in the second half when Dale's layup started an 18-2 run that gave Cornell a big lead with 10:42 left. Wroblewski scored eight points in the run, while Dale and Tyler had four each.

Niko Scott led the Lions with a game-high 21 points.

Steve Egee scored five points as the Lions closed out the first half with a 10-5 run to take a 28-23 halftime lead.
