CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Jake Robinson scored 20 points and Greg Avery added 17 as Western Carolina defeated Georgia Southern 89-75 on Monday night.
The Catamounts (9-7, 4-2 Southern Conference) led by as many as 11 points in the first half and 43-35 at the break.
Western Carolina built a 69-49 advantage with 11:54 left on a
Brigham Waginger 3-pointer. Georgia Southern (5-10, 3-4) cut the gap to 11 at 82-71, but could draw no closer.
The Eagles have lost four of their last five games since
Willie Powers, their leading scorer, suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
Waginger and
Harouna Mutombo added 13 points apiece for the Catamounts and
Kendall Russell had 12 rebounds.
Ben Drayton led Georgia Southern with 15 points, while
Antoine Johnson added 14 and
Julian Allen had 13.
The Eagles had won nine of the previous 10 against the Catamounts.
