Wichita St. 51, Evansville 50

WICHITA, Kan. -- Toure Murry swished a contested 3-pointer with 8.3 seconds left to give Wichita State a 51-50 victory over Evansville Sunday at Koch Arena.

Wichita State (9-11, 3-6 Missouri Valley) never led before Murry's shot, released just inches in front of his own bench and giving him a team-high 15 points.

Evansville (12-7, 4-5) did not call a time-out and Kavon Lacey's baseline 3-pointer bounced out just prior to the buzzer. Shy Ely led the Purple Aces with 17 points.

Wichita State did not get closer than four in the second half until consecutive baskets from J.T. Durley and A.J. Hawkins made it 45-42 Evansville with 5:01 remaining. The Shockers used a 6-0 run capped by a David Kyles slam to pull within 49-48 with 35.3 seconds to play.

Evansville controlled the first half with its defense. Wichita State was just 4 of 15 from the floor and committed 11 turnovers, leading to the Purple Aces' 26-19 halftime lead.
