SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Senior Jabril Banks had 17 points and eight rebounds to help Northern Colorado hold off a late rally by Sacramento State to claim a 66-59 victory on Thursday night.
John Pena had 16 points, three assists and three steals for the
Northern Colorado Bears (9-13, 5-4 Big Sky), who matched last season's road-win total of two.
Loren Leath had 18 points to lead the
Sacramento State Hornets (2-20, 1-8 Big Sky).
The Hornets led 7-5 early, but an 18-8 run by the Bears gave Northern Colorado its biggest lead at 23-14 with less than 10 minutes to play in the first half. The Bears shot 56 percent (14 of 25) from the floor to take a 35-28 halftime lead.
Antonio Flagg's 3-point shot at the 13:06 mark of the second half completed an 18-8 run and gave the Hornets a 46-45 lead. The Bears responded with an 8-0 run, but the Hornets came back to lead 59-58 with 3:41 to play.
