KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- David Nurse had a game-high 14 points and Western Illinois scored nine points in the final 17 seconds to beat Missouri-Kansas City 56-51 on Thursday night.

The win broke a six-game losing streak for the Leathernecks (7-14, 4-6 Summit League), who trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half.

    The Kangaroos (6-17, 2-8) got a career-high 12 points from Trey McKinney-Jones.

UMKC led 51-47 before David DuBois hit a field goal with 17 seconds left to start the Leathernecks' comeback. Ceola Clark tied it at 51 on a basket with 12 seconds remaining, then put back his own missed free throw to put Western Illinois up 53-51.

Nurse made three free throws in the final eight seconds to complete the scoring.
