CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Demetrius Nelson scored 17 points to lead The Citadel, and the Bulldogs held Elon without a field goal for the last 3:56 to seal a 60-58 win on Thursday night.
The Citadel (12-10, 7-4 Southern Conference) blew an 11-point second-half lead when Devan Carter's 3-pointer capped a 17-5 Elon run, giving the Phoenix a 56-55 advantage with just under four minutes to play.
The Phoenix (5-13, 2-8) wouldn't score again from the floor, and Austin Dahn's late 3-pointer sealed the win for the Bulldogs.
Dahn finished with 11 points, including going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, and Cameron Wells added 10 for the Bulldogs.
The Citadel shot 46.2 percent from the floor (24 of 52) in the game compared to just a 35.4-percent mark (17 of 48) for Elon.
