LEXINGTON, Va. -- Chavis Holmes scored 26 points, Keith Gabriel added 24 and Hunter Houston chipped in 20 to lead Virginia Military Institute over Southern Virginia 113-92 in an offensive shootout on Thursday night.
There were two more VMI players in double-figure scoring, as
Austin Kenon had 15 and
Travis Holmes finished with 12.
Chavis Holmes and Gabriel hit six 3-pointers apiece for the Keydets (17-3).
Ade Swann led the Knights (8-9) with 23 points and
Bryce Pendleton scored 21.
VMI jumped out to a 74-46 haltime lead on the Knights, and cruised to a 37-point lead at 107-70 on Houston's layup late in the second. The Knights, a NAIA school, went on a 22-6 run during the last five minutes to make the final margin close.
The Keydets scored 39 points off 32 turnovers by the Knights in the game.
