HUNTINGTON, W.V. -- Chris Lutz scored a career-high 37 points to lead Marshall to an 89-86 win over Tulane in overtime.
Lutz shot 13-for-21 and nailed seven 3-pointers for the Thundering Herd (10-13, 3-6 Conference USA).
Shaquille Johnson scored 22 points, and
Markel Humphrey added 18.
Marshall trailed 76-71 after Tulane's Robert Louisme made a layup with 1:56 remaining in regulation. But Lutz answered with a 3-pointer then made a layup with 39 seconds left to force overtime.
In overtime, Johnson scored five unanswered points to propel Marshall to an 86-80 lead with 36 seconds remaining.
Kevin Sims' layup cut the lead to one point with 17 seconds left, but Johnson made two free throws to seal the game. Sims missed on a 3-point attempt with three seconds left.
Tulane (9-13, 3-6) was paced by Sims, who scored 23. Louisme chipped in with 21.
