CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Cameron Wells scored 18 points to lead The Citadel past College of Charleston 72-58 on Saturday for the Bulldogs' ninth straight win.

The Citadel (17-10, 12-4 Southern Conference) trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, then pulled ahead 30-29 to start the second period.

The Bulldogs built a 45-40 lead on a Demetrius Nelson three-point play with 12:18 left and never trailed again to snap Charleston's two-game winning streak.

Nelson added 18 points for The Citadel, which hit 17 of 21 free throws, and John Brown had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Andrew Goudelock scored 15 points to lead Charleston (18-7, 10-5), which was 6 of 21 from 3-point range.

The Cougars had beaten the Bulldogs 13 straight times before The Citadel won 73-63 on Jan. 24.

The series dates back to the 1900-01 season, with Charleston leading 46-39.
