E.J. Kusnyer added 18 points and James Florence had 17 for the Bears (15-11, 9-6 Atlantic Sun Conference), who overcame foul trouble and a late Eagles' surge by hitting 18 of 21 free throws in the final seven minutes.
Mercer led 52-35 with 13:49 left, then the Eagles (10-18, 6-11) made it 59-55 with 7:09 left on a Delvin Franklin 3-pointer.
After Kusnyer converted a rare four-point play with 5:22 remaining to put the Bears up 65-56, Franklin hit another 3 for 74-69 with 58 seconds left. The Bears sealed the win at the line.
