CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Harouna Mutombo scored 28 points, had seven rebounds and three blocks in Western Carolina's 89-84 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday night.
Mutombo went 11-of-16 shooting to lead the Catamounts (13-12, 8-7 Southern Conference), who made 45.5 percent of their shots (30 of 66).
Keaton Cole scored 15 points,
Brigham Waginger chipped in with 12 and
Greg Avery had 11 for the Catamounts, who snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Mountaineers (7-17, 5-11).
Western Carolina led 62-48 on a jumper by Avery with 10:09 left to play.
The Catamounts scored 33 points off of 28 Appalachian State turnovers.
Donald Sims paced Appalachian State with 19 points and
Kellen Brand added 18.
The Catamounts avenged a 76-70 loss to the Mountaineers on Jan. 24.
