AKRON, Ohio -- Chris McKnight had 18 points and Akron scored 20 off turnovers as the Zips beat Miami of Ohio 53-44 on Wednesday night at Rhodes Arena.

Akron (17-9, 8-4 Mid-American Conference) entered the second half with a 17-14 advantage, but a 3-pointer by Miami's Michael Bramos in the first 30 seconds tied it up.

About a minute later, the Zips went ahead 22-19 on a 3-pointer by Nate Linhart. They never lost the lead after that.

The RedHawks (15-9, 8-4) came within three points with 4:52 left in the game before Akron pulled away for good with a 9-2 run capped by an Anthony Hitchens 3-pointer. Hitchens finished with 12 points.

Bramos led Miami with 12 points.

Miami had its largest lead, five points, at 8:32 of the first quarter, which saw six lead changes. It never held the lead after the break.

Akron's points off turnovers were quadruple the five points scored by Miami off turnovers.
