BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Sergio Kerusch scored 26 points and Western Kentucky defeated Florida International 79-66 on Saturday night, becoming the 14th men's basketball program in NCAA Division I history to reach 1,600 wins.
Western Kentucky (19-8, 13-3 Sun Belt Conference) led 16-10 with 10:01 left in the first half before outscoring the Golden Panthers 20-5 until halftime. The Hilltoppers led 36-18 at the break.Steffphon Pettigrew scored 17 points and A.J. Slaughter added 11 for Western Kentucky. Kerusch, who had 15 points in the first half, also had 12 rebounds.The Golden Panthers (11-18, 6-10) were led by Freddy Asprilla, who tallied his ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Alex Galindo scored 13 points.On his second free throw with 8:27 left in the first half, Galindo became the 13th player at FIU to score 1,000 points.
