JACKSON, Miss. -- Garrison Johnson had 26 points and Grant Maxey scored five of his 22 points in overtime to help Jackson State beat Grambling State 84-80 on Saturday night, extending its winning streak to eight games.

Jackson State (13-13, 12-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which started the season 1-12, remains undefeated at home.

Johnson scored eight straight points to give Jackson State a 66-58 lead with 4:45 left in regulation, but Grambling State (6-19, 4-10) tied the score at 72-72 on two Donald Qualls free throws with 7 seconds to go.

In overtime, Maxey had two free throws and a dunk to put Jackson State ahead 78-74 with 1:29 left.

Jeremy Caldwell added 19 points for Jackson State.

Qualls scored 18 points for Grambling State, which lost its fifth straight game, while Marcus Coleman had 16, Ariece Perkins 15 and Jordan Lemon 14.
