EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Shy Ely scored 21 points and Jason Holsinger added 20 as Evansville overcame a slow start and beat Miami (Ohio) 75-61 on Saturday.
The RedHawks (15-10) jumped ahead 14-3 and took a 40-35 lead at the half before the Aces (16-11) rallied.
A free throw by
Kaylon Williams gave Evansville its first lead at 50-49, then a basket by
Rodney Haddix gave Miami its final lead.
A basket by Ely put Evansville on top for good, starting a 15-3 run that put the game out of reach. A basket by Holsinger gave Evansville a 66-53 lead with 5:47 remaining, and Miami came no closer than nine points the rest of the game.
James Haarsma added 10 points for the Aces. The RedHawks were led by
Michael Bramos with 17 points and
Eric Pollitz and
Tyler Dierkers with 8 apiece.
