Emerson scored 16 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Bears (17-12, 11-7 Atlantic Sun Conference), who have won six of their last seven games. E.J. Kusnyer also added 14 points and Brian Mills chipped in 10.
The teams stayed close throughout the game, but Belmont took a 75-71 lead on a pair of foul shots by Renfroe with just over three minutes to play. But Kusnyer's 3-pointer on Mercer's next possession sparked a 12-1 run during the next 2:21 to seal the win for the Bears.
Mercer hit 27 free throws in the contest compared to 10 for Belmont.
