ORLANDO, Fla. -- Rodney Foster scored 22 points to help withstand a 45-point performance from Central Florida's Jermaine Taylor and Rice defeated the Knights 69-66 on Wednesday night.
Rice (9-18, 4-9 Conference USA) led 67-50 with 5:17 remaining, but the Knights (16-11, 6-7) went on a 16-0 run, including 14 points from Taylor, to cut the deficit to 67-66 with 1:22 left.
Foster hit a layup with 16 seconds remaining to give Rice a three-point lead. Taylor missed a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining.
Lawrence Ghoram missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Taylor grabbed the rebound with 0.9 seconds left. His desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer hit the top of the backboard.
Taylor, who set Central Florida's single-game scoring mark on Wednesday, scored 26 of the Knights' 30 second-half points.
Trey Stanton scored 14 points and had six rebounds for Rice.
