CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Brandon Giles scored 23 points and Brigham Waginger added 22 to lead Western Carolina past Chattanooga 86-77 on Saturday night.
With the win, the Catamounts (16-14, 11-9 Southern Conference) earned the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament, which starts Friday.
Waginger scored the game's first 12 points as Western Carolina opened up to a 15-0 lead.
The Catamounts took a 45-23 lead on a jump shot by Brandon Giles with 5:29 left in the first half.
Western Carolina, which led 51-33 at halftime, shot 50 percent from the field (29 of 58).
Nicchaeus Doaks scored 19 points to lead the Mocs (15-16, 11-9), while
Kevin Goffney added 16.
Khalil Hartwell had 15 points and
Keyron Sheard added for the Mocs.
