TAMPA, Fla. -- Dominique Jones scored 30 points and South Florida defeated Cincinnati 70-59 on Tuesday night.

Augustus Gilchrist added 13 points and Alex Rivas chipped in 10 for South Florida (9-20, 4-13 Big East).

Yancy Gates scored 14 points to lead Cincinnati (18-12, 8-9). Deonta Vaughn added 13 and Alvin Mitchell had 11 for the Bearcats.

Mitchell put the Bearcats ahead by seven on the first basket of the second half. The Bulls then reversed the seven-point margin, capped by a 3-pointer by Gilchrist with 4:11 left on the clock.

South Florida steadily pulled away and finished the game on a 16-7 run.

Both teams shot poorly in a first half which included five ties and four lead changes. Cincinnati hit 39.3 percent of its attempts from the floor (11 of 28) en route to a 29-24 halftime advantage.
