ALBANY, N.Y. -- Malik Alvin scored a career-high 29 points and Emanuel Mayben added 21 to lead top-seeded Binghamton to a 73-65 quarterfinal victory over No. 9 Hartford in the America East Tournament on Saturday.
The Bearcats, who have won nine straight games, became the first higher seed to survive the tournament's first four games. They were the league's regular-season co-champs and earned the conference's automatic NIT bid in a tiebreaker.
D.J. Rivera, the conference scoring champion, had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Bearcats (21-8).
Mayben suffered a lower back injury after a heavy fall in the second half, made it to the locker room on his own power and quickly returned to the game. He added six rebounds and five assists.
Michael Turner led Hartford (7-26) with 20 points.
The Bearcats will face the winner of Saturday's game between No. 4 New Hampshire and No. 5 Stony Brook in the semifinals.
