NEW YORK -- D.J. Kennedy scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half and St. John's cruised to a 63-55 win over Stony Brook on Wednesday night for the Red Storm's best start in 15 years.
The last time St. John's (6-0) opened a season with six straight wins was 1994-95, when the Red Storm started 7-0.St. John's never trailed, opening the game on Malik Boothe's 3-pointer. The Red Storm led 12-1 and by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking a 30-20 margin into the break.The Seawolves (5-2) twice pulled within nine points early in the second half, but could get no closer until Muhammad El-Amin hit a 3-pointer for the final score.Sean Evans added 12 points for the Red Storm, nine in the first half.Bryan Dougher scored 13 to lead Stony Brook, with Dallis Joyner and El-Amin chipping in 11 each.St. John's is 8-0 all-time against the Seawolves.
