Syracuse shoots 68.6 percent in first half en route to blowout victory
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Andy Rautins sat on the Syracuse bench laughing with Wes Johnson. The Orange were in high gear again and it was kind of fun being a spectator for a change."I said, 'Man, this is so much fun playing with this team because of the way we move the ball, the way we play defense.' " Rautins said after the Orange (No. 7 ESPN/USA Today, No. 8 AP) beat Maine 101-55 on Saturday night. "We wanted to go out there and beat them by 100."Freshman guard Brandon Triche had 16 points to lead five players in double figures for the Orange (8-0), who overwhelmed Maine (3-4) in the first half. Syracuse took a 60-12 halftime lead as the Black Bears made only four baskets in the opening period.
• Syracuse topped the century mark for the second time this season after racing out to a 48-point halftime lead.
• Maine shot just 4 for 31 from the field in the first half, and Syracuse had a 32-0 run in the first 20 minutes.
• The Orange shot 65.1 percent from the field, their best tally since Dec. 2007 and only their second time topping 65 percent since 1996.
• Syracuse put a season-high six players in double figures, including freshman Mookie Jones' career-high 12 points.
