PRINCETON, N.J. -- Douglas Davis scored 20 points and the Princeton defense held its third straight opponent to 50 points or less in a 46-42 win over Monmouth on Wednesday night.

Dan Mavraides added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers (5-4), who won their third game in a row.

A 3-pointer by Davis gave the Tigers their biggest lead of the game at 33-23 with 8:19 remaining. Monmouth (3-8) cut the lead to 41-38 on a pair of free throws by Travis Taylor with 40 seconds to play, but the Tigers made four free throws the rest of the way to keep the Hawks at bay.

Taylor, coming off a career-high 28 points against Penn, led the Hawks with 17 points.

Both teams shot poorly, with Princeton making only 14 of 46 field goal attempts (30.3 percent) and the Hawks connecting on 15 of 45 (33.3 percent).

Monmouth committed 20 turnovers, including 12 steals by the Tigers.
