JACKSON, Miss. -- Garrison Johnson hit two free throws with 3 seconds remaining to give Jackson State a 63-62 victory over Alabama State on Wednesday night.
Johnson finished with 29 points as the Tigers (4-10, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit and outscored the Hornets 19-8 in the final 7 minutes.
Menji Mundadi, who scored 20 points, gave the Hornets (4-9, 1-1) a one-point lead with two free throws with 12 seconds left.
Alabama State led 54-44 with 7:13 left, but Jackson State tied the score at 60 on De'Suan Dixon's 3-pointer with 1:58 to play.
Johnson was 14-for-16 from the free throw line. Tyrone Hanson added 15 points.
The Hornets average 6.8 3-pointers a game, but were 4-for-13 from beyond the arc.
