Dyson drops 32 as No. 21 UConn demolishes No. 1 Texas in second half
STORRS, Conn. -- Connecticut lost its coach this week, but found its swagger.Jerome Dyson scored a career-high 32 points and UConn (No. 21 ESPN/USA Today, NR AP) overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to upset top-ranked Texas 88-74 on Saturday.
Cutting to the Chase
Connecticut was able to take advantage of easy scoring opportunities in the second half against Texas. The Huskies scored 43 of their 54 second-half points from inside the paint and at the free throw line.
• The Huskies beat a top-ranked team for the second time in school history (2-6 all-time vs. No 1).
• UConn has won 31 straight nonconference games at Gampel Pavilion dating back to 2001.
• Texas has lost five straight and nine of its last 10 road games vs. ranked opponents.
• The Longhorns were the third No. 1 team in the history of the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll to lose twice in one week.
