DAYTON, Ohio -- Smiling Arkansas-Pine Bluff players plopped into the black folding chairs at courtside and checked their cell phones for congratulatory messages before heading out the arena door to get on yet another bus.Finally, the Golden Lions had found a road trip to their liking.Allen Smith scored 14 points Tuesday night, including a pair of 3-pointers during the Golden Lions' second-half surge to a 61-44 victory over Winthrop in the NCAA tournament's opening game.The Golden Lions (18-15) will play Duke, the No. 1 seed in the South Regional, on Friday in Jacksonville, Fla. -- a place they somehow missed during a season-opening jaunt that nearly did them in.
• Allen Smith led the way with 14 points, the third time in his last four games he's scored in double figures after doing so twice in the 29 previous games.
• Arkansas-Pine Bluff's win snapped a 17-game losing streak by teams from the SWAC in the NCAA tournament. The conference's last tourney win was by Southern in 1993 over No. 4 seed Georgia Tech.
• For the Eagles, the loss snapped a three-game winning streak overall and dropped them to 1-9 all-time in the NCAA tournament.
• The Eagles' downfall was once again shooting, as the nation's worst 3-point shooting team finished 2 for 21 (9.5 percent) from behind the arc.
