AUBURN, Ala. -- Earnest Ross scored 22 points and Auburn defeated Middle Tennessee 68-66 on Sunday night for its first win.
The Tigers (1-4), who have averaged 62.2 points per game, shot 45.3 percent from the field (24 of 53), including 13 for 25 in the second half (52 percent), against the Blue Raiders in the Global Sports Hoop Showcase.
Middle Tennessee led 32-15 before being outscored 16-2 at the end of the first half. Rob Chubby's layup with 1:56 left brought the Tigers within 34-31 at the break.
Auburn started the second half on a 6-1 run and Adrian Forbes' dunk gave the Tigers their first lead, 37-35 with 17:20 left. They led the rest of the way.
Middle Tennessee shot 42 percent from the field (21 of 50), its missed shots helping Auburn win the rebounding battle 40-27. Kenny Gabriel had 11 boards for the Tigers.
James Washington had 25 points to lead the Blue Raiders (2-3).
