HIGH POINT, N.C -- Darrion Pellum scored a career-high 33 points to lead Hampton to its fifth consecutive victory, beating High Point 70-64 on Sunday.

The Pirates (5-1) led 41-29 with 1:06 to go before halftime, but four free throws from Nick Barbour pulled the Panthers to within eight, 41-33.

Xavier Martin hit a free throw with 7:12 left to play to cut Hampton's lead to 56-55. But the Pirates scored seven straight points over the next 3:06 extended their lead to 63-55.

Barbour led the Panthers (2-3) with 25 points. Earnest Bridges, 10 points, was the only other High Point player in double figures.

Hampton was able to pull off the victory despite shooting 3 of 19 from the field (15.8 percent) in the second half. The Pirates were able to combat their poor shooting from the floor with stellar shooting from the free-throw line -- 23 for 31 (74.2 percent) in the second half.
