NATCHITOCHES, La. -- James Hulbin came off the bench to score 18 points as Northwestern State overcame an early nine-point deficit to beat turnover-prone Central Baptist 78-56 on Thursday night.
The Demons (5-3) scored 34 points off 32 Mustangs turnovers.
Northwestern State trailed Central Baptist, an NAIA school counting the game as an exhibition, 25-16 with 7:55 left in the first half.
The Demons closed the gap to 35-32 by halftime, then used an 8-0 run to lead 48-42 with 14:16 to go. Hulbin scored all 11 of his second-half points in the final 10:38 to help pull away from Central Baptist, which shot only 26.9 percent after the break (7 of 26).
Gary Stewart added 14 points for Northwestern State. All 11 Demons players had at least one rebound as Northwestern State took a 47-31 edge on the boards.
Tommy Williams scored 21 points for the Mustangs and Gavin McDaniel added 15.
