    POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Sam Prescott scored 18 points to lead four Marist players in double figures as the Red Foxes won their first game of the season, 80-72 over Niagara on Friday night in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener.

    Marist (1-6) jumped out to a 30-10 lead en route to a 44-25 halftime advantage.

    The Purple Eagles (2-5), who lost their third straight game, closed to within six points on two occasions, the last with 50 seconds to go.

    The Red Foxes then hit 5 of 6 free throws in the next 22 seconds to seal the win.

    Candon Rusin added 17 points, Jay Bowie had 15 and R.J. Hall chipped in 12 for Marist, which is 11-3 all-time in MAAC openers.

    The Red Foxes shot 46.2 percent from the field (24 of 52) while holding Niagara to just 35.7 percent (25 of 70).

    Skylar Jones scored 20 to lead the Purple Eagles, while Anthony Nelson had 16 and Kashief Edwards 15.
