Marist 74, Canisius 64

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Sam Prescott scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds to lead five players in double figures for Marist in a 74-64 win over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Sunday.

The Red Foxes (2-6, 2-0) shot 17 for 34 from the floor (50 percent) in the opening half and led 45-26 at halftime. But Marist made only three field goals in the second, allowing the Golden Griffins to hang around.

A tip-in from Tomas Vazquez-Simmons with 8:53 left to play pulled Canisius (3-4, 0-2) to within 8, 60-52. But Marist went 9 for 14 from the free-throw line the rest of the way and the Golden Griffins never got within 10 points.

R.J. Hall had 13 points, Jay Bowie and Candon Rusin scored 12 each and Anell Alexis 10 for the Red Foxes, who have won two in a row after starting the season 0-6.

Gaby Belardo scored 19 points to lead Canisius, while Alshwan Hymes added 14.
