STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Shane Gibson had 19 points and nine rebounds and Sacred Heart pulled away late in the second half for a 75-66 victory over Stony Brook on Saturday.
Jerrell Thompson scored five of his 16 points to key a 10-0 run that broke open a 54-54 tie and gave the Pioneers (3-7) a 64-54 lead with 3:32 left.
Gibson hit a 3-pointer to start the run and Thompson followed with another 3. Thompson hit two free throws before Stan Dulaire's dunk capped the run.
Stony Brook (4-5) cut the lead to 64-60 on Chris Martin's layup with 59 seconds left, but Sacred Heart scored the next six points to ice the game.
The Pioneers were 11 of 12 from the free-throw line in the final 54 seconds.
Dulaire and Evan Kelley added 11 points each for Sacred Heart.
