HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Shaquille Johnson scored 19 points and DeAndre Kane added 18 with 13 assists as Marshall overpowered Virginia Military 98-70 Sunday.

The Thundering Herd won their fifth in a row on 58.7-percent shooting from the field (37 of 63).

VMI, the nation's highest-scoring offense, scored 56 points in the first half after making 23 of 30 (76.7 percent) from the field. That put a team which entered the game averaging 95.5 points on pace to score 112.

Marshall (8-2) cooled in the second half, but not nearly enough for it to save VMI (7-5), which was led by Stan Okoye's 24 points. Okoye made 10 of 19 shots from the field; his teammates, however, combined to go 15 of 58 (25.9 percent).

Okoye also had 15 rebounds for VMI.

Three others scored in double figures for Marshall, led by Nigel Spikes, who had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Damier Pitts also had 13 points and Johnny Thomas tacked on 11.
