MOBILE, Ala. -- Augustine Rubit had 20 points and 17 rebounds Tuesday night as South Alabama held on to defeat Alcorn State 86-76 in a nonconference game.

The Jaguars (5-5) built a 28-point lead on a 3-pointer by Martino Brock with 10:14 to play. They maintained their led, going up by 23 on Raymond Sims' two free throws with 2:05 left.

But the Jaguars went the last 3 minutes without a field goal and the Braves (0-9) scored the game's last 13 points, all in a 1:48 span. That turned it into the closest game they have played this season. Every other loss has been by at least 18 points.

Kendrick McDonald led Alcorn State with 29 points and Marquiz Baker added 19.

Tim Williams added 15 points for South Alabama and Allyn Cooks contributed 12 points. DeAndre Hersey had 10 rebounds for the Jaguars.
