CANCUN, Mexico -- Cameron Johnson scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Texas State defeated Appalachian State 79-68 on Thursday night in the Cancun Governor's Cup to snap a seven-game losing streak.
The Bobcats (3-8) fended off the Mountaineers from the free-throw line, hitting 25 of 42 for the game. Texas State made 18 of 34 foul shots in the second half, including 12 of 18 in the final 5:37 when the Bobcats led by seven.
Appalachian State (4-6) led 25-20 with 6:28 to go until halftime, but Texas State closed the period on an 18-7 run to take the lead for good.
Omar Carter scored 17 points to lead the Mountaineers, who outrebounded Texas State 42-38 but committed a season-high 21 turnovers and shot only 10 of 22 from the free-throw line.
