BATON ROUGE, La. -- Kendall Timmons scored 21 points as Tulane rallied to defeat Southern University 68-65 on Thursday and record its eighth victory, matching the Green Waves' win total from last season.
Jordan Callahan added 19 points for Tulane (8-3), which finished 8-22 in 2009-10.
The Green Wave trailed 29-25 at halftime, then by six early in the second half.
Tulane then went on a 10-0 run, beginning with a Kris Richard layup and followed by a Timmons dunk and two 3-pointers.
Southern (1-10) regained the lead twice, but the Green Wave used an 11-0 run to pull ahead 51-43 and widened the gap to 62-48.
After a 10-0 Southern spurt made it 62-58 with 1:08 left, the Green Wave hit 6 of 8 free throws, including two by Callahan with 3 seconds left.
Sanford Blake scored 22 points and Brandon White had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Jaguars, who outrebounded Tulane 38-30.
